Lessons and Supplies

Salt Dough Creations
Let's make a batch of salt dough to practice creating basic sculpture forms. Then we will use these forms to create a small nature-themed sculpture. Sculptures can be baked and painted to finish.

Beads and Sticks and String
If you love beading, this is for you! We will make long strings of beads then tie them to a stick to make a super cool wall hanging. For this class, artists will need a stick from the yard, string or yarn, and an assortment of beads. Be sure that your beads fit on the string you choose!

Candy Necklaces
Grab some polymer clay in colors of your favorite Halloween Candy (Miss Sara will be making candy corn!). We will learn how to sculpt miniature candy charms.

Sticks and Stones
In this class, artists will use one of our favorite combinations of art supplies: sharpies, watercolors, and oil pastels (or crayons). Artists will start with a line drawing in Sharpie and then add oil pastel and watercolor details.

Painting with Clay
Use colorful modeling clay to PAINT!  You'll need small piece of cardboard or foam core to use as your backing!

Mini Monsters
Let's use our polymer clay to create tiny monsters!

Calder-Inspired Paper Sculptures
Now that we've practiced cutting, we will learn how to transform paper and cardboard into a three-dimensional sculpture. Learn how to turn paper strips and shapes into 3D sculptures. For this mixed media class, artists will need a blank piece of paper, colored paper to cut up, scissors, and glue.

Clay Kitties
In this class, we will be sculpting with air-dry clay. Learn how to make a slab and then shape it and add texture to form a slab kitten sculpture (or any animal you'd like). If you don't have air-dry clay, salt dough will work just fine.

Salt Dough Starfish
We will mix up a batch of salt dough and create some starry fish friends. It'll be just like finding them on the beach, but better. For the salt dough, you'll need roughly a 1/2 of flour, 1/4 cup of salt, and 1/4 cup of water. You may have some extra flour and water on hand if it's too sticky or dry

Clay Nubbins
Let's look at some of the art of Dali and then we will use air dry clay or salt dough sculpt surreal plant sculptures.

Clay Coils
Clay Coils can be more than just "snakes." We will make a coil pot using all kinds of different types of coils. Air-dry clay is recommended, but a batch of salt dough will work just fine.

Leaf Plate
We can't get enough of the beautiful Autumn leaves, so we will kick things off by making a plate that looks like a leaf!  For this class, you'll need air dry clay, clay tools, small airtight container for slip
